Description
Ben Southern has a really big dream: to compete as a figure skater in the Special Olympics World Winter Games. Finally, he gets his moment - figure skating in front of a global audience. Ben has Down syndrome. This quirky documentary has the flamboyant Ben in the starring role of his own film. Set to groovy 50s style music, it follows both his daily life and his build up to the World Winter Games. Ben squeezes a lot into his very organised day - much more than most people expect when they first meet him. He works five days a week, cleaning a huge industrial bakery. He's fastidious. He's proud that he can support himself. He fits in a heavy schedule of ice skating and fitness. He fancies himself a bit of a chef, giving us a spontaneous cooking show type demonstration and he has no tolerance for anything less than an immaculate home. Ben puts a huge effort into life, surprising all and having a laugh at himself along the way. Proud of his ice skating medals, Ben often wears them to work. He's dreamed of skating on the international stage since he was just 12 years old and he's about to give the performance of his life at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Idaho, USA.
